Having a running toilet in your home is like leaving the faucet dripping. It’s annoying, a complete waste of water, and costing you money you don’t want to spend.

A running toilet is when water is slowly trickling through the toilet. Sometimes you can hear the water; sometimes it is spotted because the water line is lower than usual.
One of the simple things you can try is testing the flapper. Sometimes the tight seal just isn’t so tight anymore because the flapper is cracking or the chain is not sitting right. DIY tutorials can be found all over the internet. Keep in mind though, just because something is simple doesn’t mean it is easy.

If you have a toilet that you have fixed and you still think it is running, try the dye test. This can be done by putting a dye tablet, available from your water provider, or a few drops of food coloring into the tank, and then waiting to see if the color appears in the toilet bowl.
Still running? You need professional help. Call a trusted plumber, like Drucks, to have it checked today.

A running toilet is simple to not do anything about, but in the long run it’s a waste of water and a waste of money.
